Converting healthy kitchen at home

Healthy Kitchen at Home

“Healthy kitchen at home” is the new nutrition awareness campaign by Healthy Kitchen Iloilo this July. This is in line with this year’s Nutrition Month theme “New normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan nag solusyon” (New normal nutrition, together we make solution) as approved by National Nutrition Council Technical Committee (NNCTC).

Nutrition Month theme calls for strengthened nutrition interventions and solidarity towards nutrition improvement. It shows the significance of nutrition in building resilience while transitioning from pandemic to endemic paradigm as the country shifts towards living with the COVID-19 virus.

With healthy kitchen at home campaign, Myka Perlas, the founder and owner of healthy food brands in Iloilo City – Healthy Kitchen Cafe, Salads and Wraps, and Mamaca Frozen Yoghurt, aims to promote eating healthy food options at home and give access to ingredients in converting every kitchen to a healthier one. “Kitchen is the heart of every home,” Myka shared.

Kitchen has a pivotal role in keeping every family healthy. “What we create in our own kitchen will be the quality of life we live,” she added. The quality of our overall health is translated from the food we consume.

Nutrition Awareness

Myka believes that we are what we eat. Awareness to what we eat is the start of a healthier life. It may be hard and will take discipline. “I try my best to be aware of everything that goes inside my body,” Perlas explained. Inevitably, there will be times that you will find yourself getting distracted. “It is always nice to go back to awareness,” she furthered.

Myka invites everyone to go for self-awareness, reboot our system, and reset our mindset towards making healthier choices that will ripple a positive effect to our whole well-being. “I have been functioning and feeling my best since I chose this healthy track,” she shared.

People attribute healthy food to expensive investment. “Some healthy ingredients might be a little more expensive than the common food in the market,” shared Myka. Converting your kitchen to a healthier one can mean investing on the right food alternatives in the market. “I believe that investing in clean and nutritious food will be worth it,” she continued. Preventing sicknesses caused by unhealthy food is better than paying for your hospital bills and maintenance medicine in the future. So, Myka shares her top three ingredients for her healthy kitchen at home.

Kombucha

Kombucha is a fermented, lightly effervescent, sweetened black or green tea drink commonly consumed for its purported health benefits. It commonly know as kombucha tea to distinguish it from the culture of bacteria and yeast. You can make your drink with added spices, fruit, or other flavorings.

Yoghurt

Yogurt is a food produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. The bacteria used to make yogurt are known as yogurt cultures. Yoghurt contains 10 essential nutrients including calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B12 and riboflavin.

Vegetables and fruits

Keeping varied stocks of fresh vegetables and fruits at home is a game changer. Salads and sliced fruits are some menu you can work on creatively in this journey. Enjoy fresh dishes daily and see how your body positively changes.

These ingredients are a good source of probiotics and antioxidants that ward off toxins and help you avoid a number of sicknesses. “It is nice to protect your system, especially your immunity and gut health being the most common health issues we face today,” Myka Perlas explained.
