A significant step towards a more reliable and robust power grid for Iloilo City has been achieved with the successful load transfer to a newly commissioned 100 Megavolt Amperes (MVA) transformer at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) Iloilo City substation.
This upgrade, a direct result of collaboration between NGCP and MORE Power, the city’s power distributor, will significantly enhance the grid’s capacity to meet the city’s growing energy demands in the next 3 to 4 years.

MORE Power, which has been advocating for increased grid capacity to support Iloilo City’s development, sees this upgrade as a crucial step towards a brighter future. “This is a significant step forward in ensuring a reliable and robust power grid for Iloilo City,” said Roel Castro, President of MORE Power. “This upgrade will provide the necessary capacity to support the city’s growth and attract new investments.”
The upgrade directly benefits MORE Power’s operations, particularly its mobile substation, Megaworld, and Jaro substations. The new 100MVA transformer boosts the NGCP’s substation capacity from 50MVA to 100MVA, marking a significant milestone in achieving MORE Power’s requirement of a 3x100MVA capacity.
“This is a major milestone in our efforts to improve the power infrastructure of Iloilo City,” Castro added. “We are grateful to NGCP for their commitment to this project, which will benefit MORE Power and the entire city.”

NGCP is committed to further enhancing the grid’s capacity. In the coming months, it plans to upgrade another power transformer serving MORE Power’s substations. This will bring the total capacity to 2x100MVA by the end of the year and a full 3x100MVA by next year.
This collaborative effort between MORE Power and NGCP demonstrates a shared commitment to ensuring a reliable and sustainable power supply for Iloilo City. The increased capacity will benefit consumers and contribute to the city’s economic growth and development.
“This is a win-win situation for everyone,” said Castro. “It shows that we are all working together to build a brighter future for Iloilo City.”
